DR. CHARLES RALPH BUNCHER
Buncher, Dr. Charles Ralph, age 84, passed away February 23, 2022, beloved husband of Maxine Berkman, devoted father of Hope (Ken) Black, stepfather of Sarah Bernstein (Mark) Newman and Alex Bernstein (Carolyn Smaka), caring grandfather of Annabella and Helena Black, Charles Bernstein and Jordan and Jeremy Newman. He is survived by his dear brother Irwin (Judith) Buncher and their loving daughter, son-in-law and their twin grandsons, as well as caring cousins and friends.
Dr. Buncher graduated with honors from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, served in the Navy and then earned Master and Doctorate degrees in Biostatistics and Epidemiology from Harvard University. Following graduation, Dr. Buncher was a biostatistician at the Atomic Bomb Casualty Commission in Hiroshima, Japan and then moved to Cincinnati for a position with Merrill Dow. He was a University of Cincinnati College of Medicine faculty member for more than 40 years and directed the Epidemiology and Biostatistics division of their Department of Environmental Health.
